Give more importance to blood test than horoscope: Lalwani
Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], March 7: The national seminar on ‘Homeopathic Treatment for Incurable Diseases’ was organised by Advanced Homeopathic Medical Research and Welfare Society and AYUSH Medical Welfare Foundation, on Saturday.
“It is important to match the horoscope before marriage, but now it is more important to go for a blood test before tying the knot as it is the only way to prevent genetic disorders in offspring,” Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani said.
The national seminar on ‘Homeopathic Treatment for Incurable Diseases’ was organised by Advanced Homeopathic Medical Research and Welfare Society and AYUSH Medical Welfare Foundation, on Saturday.
Lalwani said if a person is healthy, then society will be healthy, and if both are healthy, then the country will be healthy.
Senior homeopathic physician and member of scientific advisory board at central council of homeopathic research, Ministry of AYUSH, Dr AK Dwivedi, said that homeopathy is proving to be a ray of hope for patients suffering from incurable diseases like aplastic anemia, sickle cell, and thalassaemia.
Britain’s Dr Shashi Mohan Sharma, who joined online as a keynote speaker, said that after Corona, in England, people’s faith in homeopathy as an alternative medicine has increased.
“Mouth publicity played a key role in the popularizing of homeopathy in England,” he said.
Similarly, Dr Padmapriya Nair from England also said that homeopathy treatment significantly increases the body’s immunity, which makes the patient capable of successfully defeating even the biggest of diseases.

New Delhi (India), March 7: In this modern era of women empowerment, women are pursuing their aspirations and speaking up for themselves. Influential women are breaking societal standards to go further, accomplish more, and rewrite the rules. We are celebrating the International Women’s Day by highlighting extraordinary abilities of women for their creativity, resiliency, and strong-willed personalities that have created an impact on society at large. These strong viewpoints are being expressed by these strong, independent women, and it’s time for you to be inspired too.
Ms. Uzma Nawaz, Founder – Aaghaaz Welfare Foundation, New Delhi
Uzma completed her post-graduate degree in psychology and started her career as a counseling psychologist. She has experience in providing counseling and therapy to people from different walks of life with emotional, behavioral, and emotional issues. She worked in both hospital and community settings before starting AWF, a Delhi-based organization working in the fields of mental health and education. She believes, “if you love and enjoy your work, it doesn’t feel like work anymore.”
“You cannot achieve your goals without believing in your abilities, hard work, and a supportive family. I am proud of where I am in my journey. There will always be challenges and changes, and how you react to the situation matters. Remain positive and focused”, Uzma reflects upon her journey so far.
Ms. Saloni Goel, Founder & CEO – Glamwiz, New Delhi
As a woman founder, I have experienced both the exhilaration of creating something from my passion and the feeling of being undervalued and overlooked by people around me. But these obstacles have also taught me valuable lessons about resilience, as well as embracing the uncomfortable moments and never giving up. My advice to aspiring women entrepreneurs is to follow their passion and believe in themselves during hard times, even when all odds are against them. Listen to your peers and supporters, but do that feels right. And most importantly, strive to become financially independent to support yourself. As women achievers, we have the power to inspire and empower others. So take your decision wisely and create a positive change in the world.
Ms. Raveena Sethia, Co- Founder – AVSRAK Foundation, Senior Associate – Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, New Delhi
International Women’s Day marks a great moment to reflect on the achievements of women. As a lawyer in India, I have witnessed the growth of the women around me across court corridors, legal journalism, academia, and within law firms. As relatively younger professionals, we had the privilege of witnessing the careers of some of the most prominent lawyers, who happen to be women, and taking inspiration from their journeys and drive for change. Personally, it marks a celebration of personal and professional achievements and an opportunity to reflect on how we can empower more women around us to join the change. As part of the AVSRAK Foundation and Her Forum, my attempt remains to continue to empower, assist, and draw light on the power of women around us.
Ms. Anvitha Kollipara, Founder – CareGood Foundation, Hyderabad
Three key necessities for being an impactful leader are empathy, cooperation, and joy. It is what led me to success with the CareGood Foundation. In March 2020, I started with medicine deliveries for senior citizens at old age homes and have since expanded to impacting 230+ senior citizens monthly. I’ve also conducted solar power workshops for over 700 rural children, been named one of Forbes top 3 teen change makers, and presented my work at the United Nations. My key learning to be a leader is to push yourself when no one else is and never look back. Seeking perfection isn’t always the key; executing impactful solutions in the best way at the best time and bringing others up with you is the key to success.
Ms. Jasmine Mehta, Co-Founder – Global Policy Insights, Vice President – MSCI Inc, London
In the last decade, Jasmine has been committed to advancing the sustainability and climate agenda with various stakeholders, including governments, corporations, and investors alike, to bridge sustainability financing and climate funding gaps. She has been wearing various hats at MSCI, across different continents, leading many ESG and climate functions, and more recently driving the commercial strategy for corporations and advisors in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Given her background in finance, ESG, and international relations, she actively mentors a wide array of professionals globally on emerging issues entailing climate diplomacy and how that plugs into policy decision-making. Her objective to educate and empower youth and women to own a purposeful journey has been well received by her mentees.
Ms. Sadaf Shaheen Awan, CEO – Women Technology House, Founding Member – WomenCodersPK, Pakistan
It is time to close the gender gap and create an inclusive culture for females in the technology sector. As a technopreneur woman, my journey has been both challenging and rewarding. I have faced many obstacles and biases. Through hard work and perseverance, I have been able to overcome these challenges and become a successful tech professional by running my own software house, making it Pakistan’s first women-led software house that provides IT services, training, and courses to produce technopreneurs. My vision is to advocate for equity for females in the technology workforce in Pakistan. I believe it’s essential to empower and inspire other women to pursue their dreams in tech, and I’m committed to sharing my story and helping to create a more inclusive and diverse tech industry.”
Ms. Kritika Kalra Ghai, Founder – Medneed India, Team Lead – Paytm, New Delhi

With almost six years of experience in product and program management, she has previously worked with Eaton India Innovation Center. She has co- founded Medneed India during second wave of covid to provide medicines to those in dire need. Voluntary initiatives through which they donated more than 500kg of medicines and reached people PAN India.
Kritika’s message to all women is: “Don’t let anyone decide what you can or should do. There is an ocean out there to explore. You need to jump into it and grab that opportunity that will make you the person you want to be.” She inspires other women to take control of their lives and pursue their dreams, urging them to seize opportunities and explore the vast ocean of possibilities.
Ms. Ritika Malik, Co-Founder & Market Research Consultant – Combine Ways, New Delhi
I think it’s the fear that drives us—fear of failure, sharing our vulnerabilities, incompetence, not being able to reach a deadline or manage time well, both personally and professionally, and a million other points. We need to take up the difficult tasks first, dealing with the most complex client situation, laying down the most tedious strategy, analyzing the most complicated data set, and evaluating the most laborious report.
Maybe even re-doing all these in half the time available because we failed at something the first time. So what! Making mistakes is inevitable, despite trying our best. Since one cannot control every aspect, the best thing to do is to accept and move forward. As it’s rightly said, the best is yet to come! Always!

New Delhi (India), March 7: Goa is the synonym for happiness and fun. People from all walks of life come to relax on the white-sand beaches and enjoy the nightlife. But away from the shimmering lights and clean streets, in the shadows, a sordid trade in trafficking young women is thriving. No one can stop it. And if anyone is foolish enough to try, he puts his life at risk. A Virus on the Beach, written by Subhuti Anand, exposes the harsh reality of Goa’s sex trafficking industry, which government reports confirm is now the biggest in India.
Two young trafficked women, one from Nagaland and one from Nepal, meet a British tourist on the beach during the pandemic lockdown and seek his help in escaping their grim fate. Sucked into a world of criminals, gangsters and female escorts, the tourist finds himself taking increasingly desperate measures, including violence and killing.
Subhuti Anand is a former political journalist who worked in the British House of Parliament. He came to India in 1976 to meet the controversial mystic Osho, then known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. In March 2020, Subhuti chose to remain in Goa during the nationwide lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Defying the curfew, Subhuti walked every morning on Candolim beach, and there he met two young women from North East India who had been working in a spa hotel in Calangute. It was their story that inspired Subhuti to write the novel, A Virus on the Beach. Through the book, he wants to draw the world’s attention to the way thousands of women are trafficked in India by gangs who enjoy near immunity from prosecution. It is a work of fiction reflecting a brutal reality.

There were 1000 women attendees from schools, colleges, medical colleges and pharmaceutical backgrounds at the town hall talk
The doctors also distributed around 25000 sanitary napkins in the aim to create awareness on how hygiene and lifestyle can prevent cancers
The doctors spread awareness of vaccines available to prevent cervical cancers
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 7: Marengo CIMS Hospital and K K Patel Hospital at Bhuj joined hands to hold a Town Hall talk to commemorate International Women’s Day with the aim to create increased awareness of cancers in women. The audience comprised 1000 young women from various walks of life and age groups. The age groups were 13 years to 20 years, schoolgoers, college goers, medical students, students studying pharmacy, and physiotherapists. The doctors also distributed 25000 sanitary napkins to educate the audience on how sustained hygiene and lifestyle contribute to defeating diseases that have impacted mortality in the past. The talk show was led by Dr Anagha Zope, Breast Cancer Surgeon, Marengo CIMS Hospital, and Dr Mona Shah, Gynaecology Onco-Surgeon, Marengo CIMS Hospital.
Breast and cervical cancers are posing a significant disease burden and a growing concern for the nation. Socio-economic factors coupled with lack of screening, low awareness, associated stigma, and taboos remain obstacles to early screening. The talk was an interactive one aimed to spread increased awareness on menstrual hygiene, cervical cancers in women, breast cancers, prevention of cancers, lifestyle conditions that are contributory factors in cancers, vaccines for cervical cancers, early detection, and early treatment for cancers in women.
Dr Anagha Zope, Breast Cancer Surgeon, Marengo CIMS Hospital says, “The talk aimed at addressing the young women population to educate them to adopt healthier lifestyles to reduce their individual risk of getting breast and cervical cancers. We have a diverse society where women have access to information, but most of the information is unauthenticated. This prevents them from taking appropriate decisions. India is at a stage where we are witnessing very high incidences of breast cancer. Our western counterparts have also witnessed high incidences. But what differentiates the western population is while mortality due to breast cancer is reducing in the western population, it is on the rise in the Indian population. It is inadequate to just spread awareness. Most importantly, we need to implement appropriate action to catch the disease early in women, control mortality, and reduce deaths due to this. The event proved to be fruitful and impactful as it provoked the thoughts in the young women audience on hygiene, health, and the social aspect of each of their responsibility as individuals.”
Dr Mona Shah, Gynaecology Onco-Surgeon, Marengo CIMS Hospital says, “The highly interactive town hall talk yielded a good understanding of cancers in women. But India still has a long way to go in surmounting challenges such as the size of the population, penetration in rural areas to create increased awareness, mindsets to surmount shame and hesitation of going to doctors, and self-examination as an educated exercise. With Oncologists taking up the responsibility of community outreach and educating the more proactive younger population, we are confident of bringing fatalities down.”
Dr Keyur Parikh, Chairman – Marengo CIMS Hospital says, “The hospital is taking up newer initiatives to spread awareness in a sustained one on various diseases. Cancers in women have been on the rise and through activities like the Town Hall, we are very happy to have reached out to a significant number of women to educate them. Information that is unauthenticated may not have the necessary impact on the minds of the young. However, when you have experts and specialists educating on urgent matters it has become in the current times, the mind is quick to learn.”
According to the Global Cancer Observatory (GLOBOCAN) estimates, there were 19.3 million incident cancer cases worldwide for the year 2020. India ranked third after China and the United States of America. it is further predicted that cancer cases in India would increase to 2.08 million, accounting for a rise of 57.5 percent in 2040 from 2020. Breast cancer has risen by 13.5 % and cervical cancer by 9.4% in the year 2020. Among all cancers, breast and cervical cancers are in third and fourth positions and the top two cancers in women. It would require meticulous planning, monitoring, and evaluation of cancer control activities to win over cancer in any region.

New Delhi (India), March 7: As we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, we bring forward strong opinions about women showing great courage by making their mark in the health industry. These influential women have an unshakeable desire to push their boundaries and create an impact. Below are the opinions of female doctors and coaches from different domains who are guiding people on the path to a healthy lifestyle. As they say, building a healthy lifestyle should be a continuous process, not a one-time event.
Dr. Rachana Gaddipati, ENT Surgeon, MS (ENT), MBBS, MS, Co-Founder – V Kare ENT Centre, Gurgaon
Healthcare is not an industry, and the sanctity of healthcare is no more in the era of privatization. Wanting to serve from a young age and choosing not to have children has allowed me to treat every patient who comes into my OPD as my child. That choice I was able to make owing to the strength of all the positive male influences in my life—my father, my husband, and my brother—and the credit is duly given to their respective wives and mothers who not only educated their daughters but also sensitized their sons on how to treat women. Today, my husband and I work together equally and run our centre, where our collective belief is that “healthcare has to be equal and affordable to all”!
Dr. Nandita Palshetkar, MD, FCPS, FICOG, FRCOG, Associated Lilavati Hospital, Bandra
Palshetkar Patil Nursing home, Mumbai
The success of every woman should be an inspiration to others. We’re the strongest when we cheer each other on. Dr. Nandita Palshetkar is one of the pioneers of IVF treatment in India, specializing in Assistive Reproductive Technologies, and has been helping over 1000 aspiring couples have a baby of
their own. She is credited with an average IVF success rate of 45%–50%.
Women’s empowerment is intended to promote women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. There is always a special sweetness in being able to participate in creation. I am blessed to be a part of this creation in the
lives of so many couples—Dr Nandita.
Dr. Mithila Desai, MA, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Therapist, Mumbai
Are you your true self? As women, we are taught from childhood the importance of making others happy, and in the pursuit of accomplishing that, we often lose our true selves in the desire to fit in, be pleasing, and constantly fear disappointing others. What lies beneath this desire is the feeling of low self-worth—the feeling we have to prove our worth and be agreeable to people in our professional and private relationships. We do everything to the utmost. We pour all of ourselves into our surroundings, people, and work.
Realization Comes at a Cost! These feelings become our identity and fuel anxiety, stress, fear of rejection, and failure. Accept, embrace, and put the focus on yourself instead. Rediscover your true self, move closer to your life, and practice self-love and compassion; that’s the gift of self-acceptance.
Let the healing begin!
Ms. Avantii Deshpaande, MSC – Food Science & Nutrition, Clinical and Sports Nutritionist, Pune
We celebrate International Women’s day on the 8th of March, or can I say that we cherish womanhood the entire month! I would like to dedicate a message to all women! You are strong and beautiful at the same time, and you have the power to positively change the people around you and the entire world. Remember to love yourself more each day- never expect anyone else to do that for you, and learn to be gentle and not too harsh on yourself. Realize the importance of “Me time” and the right to sound nutrition and exercise because you are the pillar that holds the family together.
Dr. Karishma Kirti, MBBS, MS, FEBS, Mumbai
A small step towards general awareness of breast cancer—its risk factors and signs, self-breast examinations, and screening—can go a long way in detecting the disease early. Breast cancer is on the rise around the world, especially as we change our lifestyles in a rapidly developing India. Early detection translates to better outcomes and essentially saves a life.
To all the young women, do a self-breast examination every month. Meet a breast specialist annually to have a checkup. Breast cancer can have more than a 95% curative success rate if caught early. Through these two simple steps, you can ensure good breast health and avoid the distress that comes with a late-stage diagnosis. Take your health into your own hands and get checked now!
Dr. Shakuntala Ghosh, MBBS, MS (ENT), Senior Consultant ENT, Director Sri Rama ENT Care Centre, Hyderabad
Being a Senior ENT & Head Neck Surgeon with an enriching and varied experience of 22 years after post-graduation and the founder-director of Sri Rama ENT Care Center, I wish all the women leaders a very Happy Women’s Day.
I firmly believe that the innate qualities of women—extreme patience, tenacity, multi-tasking ability, and the capacity to cope with the unexpected—can be brought to the table as part of a workforce or team. Other attributes like maintaining a meticulous balance sheet of income and expenditure come conveniently and subconsciously to the girl who has seen her mother, grandmother, or aunt doing the same. So let’s put our hands together to give more power to women in all walks of life—may our sisterhood prosper!
Dr. Rachita Mehlawat, BDS, MDS- Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Pursuing PhD, Pediatric Dentist, Delhi
I am a pediatric dentist working in Dwarka, specializing in nitrous oxide sedation, general anaesthesia, and full mouth rehabilitation of children. I have worked very hard to become a doctor, day and night. I love children, so I enjoy my work treating them, making them free of pain, and making their smiles white.
I work for special children as well as all age groups of children and adolescents, using behaviour management techniques and the latest advanced technologies. I work in a team on Saturdays and Sundays, too, so that working parents and school-going children are helped by me as much as possible.
Dr. Sailee Joshi, MDS (Periodontics), Periodontist, Founder – Dr. Sailee’s Dental Clinic, Nagpur
It’s been 16 years in the dental profession; I am passionate and proud of what we do. I love that we get to make people smile! This year, my practice will complete nine years, and I am proud of the brand I created.
I was greatly influenced by a quote by Zoya Akhtar: When asked about the inequality of pay in the industry, she said, “I always got what I asked for; it’s not like I asked for more, but they refused.”
My advice to younger females is the same: You decide your own value, and never underestimate yourself. You are always part of a team, be it professionally or personally. Be grateful for and gracious with the support you get. It goes a long way!

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 7: After growing at an unprecedented pace in the two years after the Covid-19 pandemic first erupted, the technology industry is in the news for the wrong reasons of late. The industry has been hit by a wave of mass layoffs, with even global tech giants, including the likes of Google, Microsoft, Twitter, Dell, Amazon, IBM, and many others announcing thousands of job cuts. According to some estimates, more than 3 lakh people in the industry have been laid off, and the number is widely expected to swell. Naturally, the number of people who have lost their jobs includes many Indians.
The Indian IT industry is facing several headwinds in the wake of a slowing global economy. The next few months and quarters are expected to be challenging for the industry, but there are also many things going well for the industry.
According to a report released by industry body NASSCOM and global consulting firm McKinsey, India’s technology services industry has the potential to generate $300-350 billion in annual revenue by 2025 if it can capitalise on rapidly emerging business opportunities in cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, etc.
The Indian IT industry is riding on the wave of Industry 4.0, or the fourth industrial revolution. Industries in India and globally are looking to kickstart or accelerate their digital journey by adopting the latest technological tools. Industries are also implementing new-age technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing and Analytics, and many others to improve efficiency and productivity and become competitive.
Industry 4.0 means a great transformation is underway in the Indian manufacturing sector. The upcoming digital businesses and their fundamental technology platforms will require support via a robust digital network, which will focus on the endpoints of the people involved. With its unparalleled experience and expertise developed over the past several decades, the Indian IT industry is uniquely positioned to make the most of this huge opportunity.
India’s economic performance – the country is expected to be among the fastest-growing major economies globally in 2022-23 – also augurs well for the IT industry.
With everything moving at breakneck speed, time is limited, and consumers don’t have the time to learn how to use a product. With new technologies evolving and businesses getting more digitised with every passing day, data and information are becoming increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks. Already, since the Covid-19 pandemic, cyberattacks have been on the rise. The pandemic ushered in work from home and remote working, but it also fuelled cybersecurity challenges, including cyberattacks, ransomware, phishing and many more. Managing remote workplace infrastructure is another new challenge for businesses, and according to some studies, data breaches and cyberattacks have gone up manifold in the last four years. The average loss suffered by businesses because of data breaches is reported to be $2,00,000 – approximately Rs. 1.60 crore. Cybersecurity solutions is another great opportunity for the IT industry as it can focus on developing new tools and systems for clients to help them safeguard their data and digital assets by staying one step ahead of cyber attackers.
Cloud Computing too is another huge opportunity for the IT industry of India. A growing number of businesses are using the cloud to perform a wide variety of tasks like data backup, disaster recovery, email, virtual desktops, software development and testing. Rather than investing in physical data centres and servers, businesses are choosing to access various services such as computing power, storage and databases from the cloud provider. By addressing issues and concerns associated with clouds such as cost, service provider reliability, downtime, data overload, password, security issues and data privacy, the industry can enhance its offerings.
One of the biggest strengths of India’s IT industry is its vast talent pool. Indian IT professionals have made a name for themselves not only in IT and technology hubs like Silicon Valley but across the globe. The knowledge, skills, experience, exposure, and delivery of Indian IT professionals are unlike any. A career in IT is considered a highly rewarding one, and not surprisingly, the field of IT is among the most preferred ones in India. Of course, there are some challenges right now when it comes to IT professionals. A recent news report showed how an Indian software giant has offered to hire professionals at half the package they were originally offered. That said, few Indian IT companies have resorted to job cuts or mass layoffs, which suggests that they are comfortable with the current and future business projections. As demand for automation goes up, so will the demand for IT professionals with specialised skills. Maybe this is what the Indian IT industry is also expecting.
I said in the beginning that technology is evolving rapidly. The demand for new technology systems, robust infrastructure networks, and evolving needs of businesses globally are among the factors that will continue to drive the growth of the Indian IT industry.
