Souvik Ghosh joins SkillArbitrage as Vice President – Business Analyst

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], March 23: Souvik Ghosh’s story starts simply and becomes remarkable on the way. He was a Techie who started off quite conventionally, with a good high, paying job in a decent organization.  He has worked with major players in IT across the globe, like iBility, BATs and Wallenius Wilhelmsen (Nissan US), translating user requirements to enterprise-level products.

However, the lack of work-life balance, a common phenomenon in the IT industry, was taking its toll on his quality of life. The pressure was too high, and the reward was not high enough. This prompted Ghosh to choose a less common path and set up shop on the popular freelancing platform, Upwork.

Ghosh remembers that it was not smooth sailing all the way. There were fallouts and some challenges in both getting the work and retaining it at first. But he believes that freelancing and landing well-paying international clients on Upwork is possible for anybody with single-minded determination and the willingness to work really hard in the initial days. Ghosh had both, and soon, he was earning millions through his Upwork gigs.

As SkillArbitrage is all about opening new horizons of remote international opportunities for Indian professionals, Ghosh was a natural fit for the SkillArbitrage Tech Team. Being one of the leading edtech companies, a major pillar in SkillArbitrage’s success is its ever-innovative tech team.

Not only the tech team, which is building unique technology that enables Skill Arbitrage learners to develop their skills faster and build powerful track records and credibility as global professionals, but future learners, especially in the tech industry, will benefit a great deal from Ghosh’s mentorship.

According to SkillArbitrage CEO Ramanuj Mukherjee, “The Company’s vision matches perfectly with Souvik’s aim. We intend to support people who choose unconventional paths to success, and he is somebody who can lead by example.”

SkillArbitrage courses and placement support have been especially popular with housewives and mothers of young children, professionals looking for side gigs and extra income, digital natives looking to escape office cubicles & those living in smaller cities who cannot move to large metros to find jobs as they now do not have to restrict themselves to a small local job market anymore.

Bangalore-based Agri-Tech Start-up; “FarmSmart®” is a fresh meat brand with “Mutton Frontier”

New Delhi (India), March 22: Gourmet meat brand that delivers exceptional service in channelizing quality fresh mutton! Characteristically, mutton has flavour & aroma; most of the time, the mutton purchased from the modern trade is pale, unappetizing slabs of meat crammed into Styrofoam and plastic wrap.

Started in 2016, Transitioned from production services to market catalyst, extending to modern trade supplies from 2019; and in 2020, established retail outlet; currently serving retail customers across Bangalore. There is huge unmet demand for Fresh Lamb & Chevon in India, especially in cities like Bangalore; we have grown organically and immensely through customer referrals.

Muzammil Shaik – the Founder, is a Bio-Tech Engineer holding a PG in Meat Sciences and also a member of “The Association of Meat Scientists & Technologists” & “The Indian Society for Sheep & Goat Production & Utilization”; he has a lot to talk about the brand “FarmSmart” and Fresh Meat.

Sayeed ur Rahman – the Co-Founder, comes from sales acumen and has 25+ years of extensive expertise in western countries & also has been associated with the livestock trade for 5 years.

Our journey commenced over 10 years ago, while we have seen the entire value chain in the agricultural space for small ruminants, wherein we have worked in the fields with the shepherds, advising them on scientific management and veterinary practices, selection of breeds and have advised multiple clients in setting up and running sheep and goat farming enterprise.  As a natural progression, we moved on to being a market catalyst as the majority of the produce gets consumed for meat purposes. We acted as a catalyst to provide quality mutton to the market, i.e. we consciously chose to supply to the organized sector.

In the past years, our annual revenue (year-to-year) stood at Rs 4cr, including retail & institutional sales – B2B, B2C & HoReCa. Apart from meat, we have been able to successfully aggregate and deliver about 500 ltrs of goat milk per week for institutional supplies, and goat milk is a niche product by itself.

Butchery is one of the world’s oldest professions, with traditions and practices dating back to the first humans to ever use tools. Of course, modern commercial slaughter and butchering are radically different from the first hunters and their stone knives. In fact, the sheer volume of meat required to supply supermarkets has led to the wide usage of practices that reduce the overall quality. A supermarket butcher has likely never met the person who slaughters their meat, let alone the animal.

But we at “FarmSmart®” is a traditional style modern store, aiming to work closely with our suppliers, ensuring animals receive humane and ethical treatment– sourced locally and organically through our networks whenever possible. At FarmSmart, our journey starts from animals, while with most of the brands, the journey is from the carcass. We have the shortest value chain in terms of procurement processing and consumption, and we create a better value proposition for farmers as well as consumers.

At FarmSmart, there are a lot of processes involved in pre & post-slaughter, which is why our meat quality is consistently fresh & flavoursome every day at every delivery. At FarmSmart, we have been successful in standardizing the product as “lamb & chevon”. Over the years, with tremendous efforts and hard work, we have been able to create a very strong product presence which is accepted and appreciated by all segments of consumers.

Chicken, Fish & Mutton are the 3 standard products sold across the trade cycle. While chicken and fish are almost organized due to the inherent simplicity in their trade, it’s not the case with Mutton. Mutton, as a product, is very complicated! For instance: Firstly, we have Sheep & Goats. Then breed, creed, size of the carcass etc., and the quality differs at each and every parameter listed above. Hence, this criterion for meeting quality mandates that we use the best of our expertise to standardize the product before getting it for sale. This is the key differentiator that has made us successful as we are today.

Currently, the value lies in the last mile, i.e., in the retail segment, and we want to capitalize on the hard work, the in-depth knowledge acquired from fields to the last point of sale & mainly consumer preference in this segment, the first mover advantage, our learning’s in the consumer space to grow and create value for ourselves and our investors. It takes time for others to catch up and build this ecosystem to scale up.  Knowledge can be sourced, but building the ecosystem is difficult as butchery is a highly skilled profession.

We strive to lead into the organized sector with “MUTTON” – people would know us for mutton, and there are none who have made a mark in this space.  In the organized meat segment today, mutton consumption is low since the availability of good-quality mutton is also low.  We want to give a convenient and consistent customer experience in the market, eventually contributing to an increased share in the organized sector.

Husain highlights an ostentation of art & Jewellery in auction sale

New Delhi (India), March 22: The latest auction by Bid & Hammer is a unique amalgamation of jewellery and art inspired by Peacock leitmotifs. A divine epitome of confidence, beauty and renewal, the Peacock originated from the Indian sub-continent, has been an integral part of our centuries-old folklore and has been abundantly used in all sorts of artistic creations across genres from ancient times to this day, however, it is being presented in a standalone auction perhaps for the first time. Appropriately lead by the artwork of Maqbool Fida Husain, one of the greatest Modern Indian artists, the catalogue is supported by Bengal School great Jamini Roy and well-respected artists Devaki Nandan Sharma & Fakir Mohammed Soofi. The latter two being ‘Bird Specialists’.

The muster of ‘white peacocks’ that signify spirituality, inner light, rebirth and even nirvana is not only an ode to the peacock but also to a rather under-appreciated stalwart of Indian art -F M Soofi – who excelled in bird, flaura& fauna and animal compositions apart from inlay work. An alumnus of the art schools at Mysuru and Mumbai, Soofi was a recipient of the Lalitkala Academy award in 1982 and the state Rajyotsava award in 1984. This oil on board, with a width of four feet is a typical composition by this master artist from Karnataka whose paintings are hard to come by and that too at an auction.

It has become a kind of pattern for Bid & Hammer’s auctions to be lead by M F Husain, as last years ‘Auction of the Week’ also had an iconic painting by the artist from the famed ‘Theorama’ series titled ‘Islam’, the No-Reserve & Silent Bid auctions the year prior to it had Horses and the ‘Traditional, Modern and Contemporary Indian Art’ auction preceding that also had Husain’s canvases as the top draw, as did its Significant Indian Art auction that had white horses against a saffron background – a masterpiece belonging to Mohamed Ali Baig – along with a work from the Mother Teresa series belonging to Namrata Shirodkar. Not to forget, Husain’s 1972 watercolour of Shiva had topped the debut sale of the auction house in Bengaluru, apart from the fantastic quality Husain’s at its ‘Jodhpur Auction’ at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, where celebrities from all over the world converged and participated in a historic event for a noble cause. In effect rendering the subsequent artist foundations claims a publicity farce in extremely poor taste. Coming back to the Husain in the current auction, the website describes the painting as unique and “a motif of rural Rajasthan, with two Peacocks and a woman in the courtyard …..….. the colours embodying the landscape of the region where he travelled extensively in the 1960s”. The estimate on it is Rs 35 – 50 lakhs.

Another highlight in the paintings section is the Peacock by Jamini Roy, one of the “Nine Gems of Indian Art”. The silk on cloth by the late Prof. Devaki Nandan Sharma of the Banasthali Vidyapith, Jaipur has the Indian blue Peacock – peahens and peafowls – in an ostentation of six and is estimated at Rs 40,000 – 70,0000. The rest of the collection includes a Peacock feather pattern bowl by Austrian glass-maker Loetz, handcrafted silver jewellery from Rajasthan, pearls and metal encased Victorian style pendant from one of the Nizam of Hyderabad’s nobles from the 1930s and a seventeen-feet long miniature scroll dated 1782 AD depicting Queen Trishala’s Dreams, before the birth of the last Jain tirthankar Mahavir. On the choice of this subject for the auction, Ankush Dadha, Director of Bid & Hammer, said “In the past also, the Peacock has featured prominently in our auctions and have done well, so this is an extension of the popular subject by way of a specialist thematic sale”.

The bidding will be conducted online on 28th March 2023 (from 3:00-6:00 pm IST), and registration is a must. A refundable earnest deposit amount has to be paid by first time participants. The details can be found at https://www.bidandhammer.com/
