Why Losing Final Kgs is hard to Lose?

By Yash Vardhan Swami, Health Coach, Business Coach, Founder, Trained by YVS

New Delhi (India), March 29: Learn what to keep in mind ! So many of us ‘almost reach our fat loss goal’ but never completely reach our ‘end goal’. Let’s talk about why:  Losing the final Kgs is hard and how to work around it.  We will be discussing multiple aspects as to ‘Why’ Losing the Final Kgs is the ‘Hardest’.

Let’s start with Psychological Aspects: most of us, when we move close to our ‘goal weight’, start looking good in clothes, so that weight stops bothering us that much. Only motivational bouts we get are before a week’s vacation and it’s very temporary.

So, step #1 should be reinstating a stronger ‘Why’ which should be much more than the way we look and should be extended to being a better and more disciplined version of self. Having a goal, a definitive plan and accountability with a coach/mentor who you trust can help a lot with this.

Now, the motivation is a little low. Let’s understand how a bit of our body works and how we can work around it. Evolutionarily speaking, our body is designed to survive and store excess energy so that if someday we run out of food our body can use these stores for survival (like early man could).

So, when aiming to lose the final kilo’s our craving levels are higher, food focus increases, we become lazier and we have bouts of questioning the process and our goals. That’s your body wanting you to not lose fat (as when we are dieting i.e. eating fewer calories than what we are burning, our body suspects ‘famine’).

A lot of this is mediated through hormones such as: Downregulation of thyroid (regulates our metabolism) and leptin (signals satiety) and up regulation of ghrelin (which signals hunger) That’s simply our body getting ‘efficient’ for survival.

Tracking food intake, daily activity (i.e. daily steps) and progress regularly and updating stuff as and when required can be a game changer in this situation.

Another thing which might happen during this process(esp. when we have been dieting for a while) is that we get impatient. Like I mentioned, the body becomes efficient, results might get slower and that becomes mentally challenging.

Along with these, if stress and sleep are not managed, that can wreak havoc on our energy levels (and even hunger).
So, special prioritization should be given to mindfulness routine, managing stress (aiming to be in a parasympathetic mode i.e. calm mode for the most part) and having a pre-sleep and morning routine is a must.

Another aspect to take care of while aiming to lose this final bit of fat: We need to ensure that we are in a caloric deficit, not a nutrient deficit. Ensuring that we are having macronutrients(protein, carbs and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) is a must.

Yes, we need to eat fewer calories than what we burn but the deficit should not be messing up our health or relationship with food.

Coupling that with 3-5 weight training sessions/week and enough daily activity is a must to retain lean body mass, so that when we lose the final kgs, we look: LEAN, not skinny.

Huge focus on health and reinstating our ‘Why’ and why we are doing it is a game changer for most of us.

Coupling that up with trust in process, a plan we trust, being accountable to a coach we trust and working on our psychology around our short term and long term goals is a surefire way of increasing our chances of success.

Dr. Polaris, a medical edtech startup introduces the Study-a-thon series to top MBBS exams & PG entrance in a single go

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], March 29: Dr. Polaris, a medical e-Learning startup, has launched the Medical PG Entrance Prep space, with their latest study programme Study-a-thon. It is an Internal/Semester based Study marathon series with scheduled pre-recorded MBBS theory based videos, Live PG Entrance Sessions, Live Practical Videos, Practical Mocks, Qbanks & Test Series, to make sure that the aspirants are theory-ready, practical-ready & PG-entrance ready for the present Internal/Semester topics.

According to Dr. Sharook Mubarak, Founder & CEO, Dr. Polaris, “Medical PG entrance is one of the most competitive exams in India. Every year, approximately 2 lakh aspirants attend the exam and only 15% to 20% get into the PG seat. One of the best solutions for grasping a seat is to start the preparation early and be consistent, but without losing focus on MBBS itself. However, that’s easier said than done.

In reality, MBBS students from day one tend to focus more on PG Entrance prep, which targets objective question patterns, which may make the student compromise their foundation & conceptual part of medical learning. We’ve been working a lot to come up with a solution where a student achieves a good foundation along with PG Entrance prep – all aligned in a single line. After months of research & preparation, the platform is launching PG prep with an aim to introduce a new culture of MBBS to PG Entrance learning and study-a-thon series is a perfect starter for that.

PG Entrance Prep is a marathon for sure & to finish that, the edtech platform is introducing some Short High-Intensity systematic sprints like Study-a-thon. During each academic year of MBBS life, the students will have 3 Semesters/Internal exams and Study-a-thon will primarily focus on preparing them for PG Entrance based on their current Semester/Internal topics, along with giving them resources to make them university exam ready as well. This way they can focus on their MBBS & PG Entrance simultaneously”.

About Dr. Polaris

Dr. Polaris is a medical learning platform that has been providing supplementary learning content for MBBS Students to augment their campus learning for more than a year now. There are around 1000 hours of CBME-Integrated Video lectures, 1800+ Digital notes & 100 Animated Case Simulations in their Content library, helping several students top their MBBS University exams for the past academic year. The brand will be a level ahead with the start of the Study-a-thon programme.

Startups need to adopt a more frugal business model, say top experts at GVFL’s Annual Investors Meet

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 29: Amid challenging economic conditions, startups and businesses must relook at their business models and adopt more frugal business practices to attract investor interest, experts said at the GVFL Annual Investors Meet 2023.

“The times are challenging. Money is there, but funds are going to be choosy in the startups they invest in. Startups will have to relook at their revenue models, adopt more frugal business practices, reduce expenses, and focus on profitability to tide over the crisis,” Kamal Bansal, MD, GVFL said in his welcome address. Bansal also shared GVFL’s future plans saying it will launch its 10th fund very shortly. He said that with the ‘Gujarat Young Entrepreneurs Venture Fund’ announced by the Government of Gujarat in the budget, GVFL hopes to catalyse investment of more than Rs. 3,000 crores in startups in Gujarat in three to five years.

The GVFL Annual Investors Meet brought together more than 250 startup founders, investors, incubators, institutional investors, funds, and other stakeholders to discuss investing trends and other relevant topics. The day-long meet saw panel discussions on upcoming sectors and investing trends, lessons learnt in startup investment & way forward, and risks and rewards of seed-stage investments. Representatives of Speciale Invest, Jupiter Capital, JSW Ventures, Omnivore Partners, Carpediem Advisors, IVY Cap Ventures, Blume Ventures, Mumbai Angels, CIIE.co, Venture Garage, and Iroller Capital participated in the panel discussions.

During the meet, experts stressed on finding business models that will cater to the middle and the bottom of the pyramid and not just the top of the pyramid. They also emphasised the need for innovation, ideas that help in solving real-world problems, and the right execution. Delivering the keynote address, Piruz Khambatta, CMD, Rasna Group, urged startups to find innovative solutions that reach the grassroots level and help in promoting inclusive growth and nation-building.

In his address, Sunil Parekh, who is advisor to leading corporates and works extensively in promoting startups, said, “Indian startups have had an enormous impact on us as consumers and citizens, but have tech startups and unicorns developed any innovative technologies, done some foundational technological research? The answer is a big no.” He also said that India is home to 91,000 registered startups, 108 unicorns, and the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. He, however, noted that almost no unicorn in India has been formally incubated in an incubator, and called upon the audience to deliberate why the most successful ventures are outside the formal incubation ecosystem.

In his remarks, Mihir Joshi, President, GVFL said, “There is certainly a cash crunch. Investors are being cautious. But is this the funding winter? No, we are back to normal from the unsustainable, high startup valuations had touched.”

Nine startups, in which GVFL is an investor, also made presentations about their business, their growth, and their plans. The startups include Zero Cow Factory, Video SDK, Saarthi Pedagogy, Zoivane, Pivoting, PetPooja, All that Dips, Qarmatek and Eronkan.

Hafele is a pioneer in the digitalisation and development of innovative room concepts

Balance 2022: 10 % growth – Going into 2023 with courage and optimism

New Delhi (India), March 29: 2022 has been shaped by persistent Corona restrictions in some markets, inflationary pressures with a resulting turnaround in interest rates, a cooling global economy and, above all, the war in Ukraine. In the midst of these global challenges, Hafele SE & Co KG, a leading global supplier of intelligent hardware and fitting systems, lighting and electronic access control systems, has demonstrated its innovative strength and seized opportunities for growth. When it comes to future topics such as digitalisation and the development of new types of room concept, the Hafele Group has acted as a driving force within the industry. The international Hafele Group, for example, with its subsidiaries in 38 countries and around 8000 employees, grew by 10 percent and increased its revenue to €1.87 billion. Particularly worth mentioning in this respect are the America and South-East Asia regions, which developed their significant potential as “growth locomotives” for Hafele in 2022.

“Courage and optimism” was therefore set as the motto for 2023 for Gregor Riekena, who has been CEO of the Hafele Group since January, the year in which the 100th anniversary of Hafele will also be celebrated. At the beginning of the year, no one could have imagined how soon and how profoundly this attitude would have to prove itself. But in coping with the cyber attack in February 2023, Hafele demonstrated how decisive, courageous action has now quickly succeeded in restoring the company’s ability to operate and led to renewed strength.

Many building blocks lead to success

Hafele’s strength lies in utilising its innovative potential, particularly during difficult times. The keywords for this positive development are digitalisation and the development of innovative room concepts for an evolving living and working world. The increased orientation towards socially and ecologically responsible, resource-conserving action is also forward-looking and, above all, promising in the long term. For example, sustainability issues continued to gain momentum at Hafele in 2022. Joining the WIN Charter and publishing the first sustainability report in the spring of 2023 are evidence of the company’s commitment.

The digital Hafele world

The period of the pandemic was also used sensibly to develop skills and capacities in the digital world. One milestone was the development of the virtual showroom “Discoveries” to ensure that Hafele has a consistent presence in all markets. The response to the digital platform, which initially replaced trade fairs which had been cancelled due to the pandemic, has been extremely positive: the distinct internationality with content in 16 different languages and the winning of thirteen top-class awards are an expression of the appreciation and considerable interest in experiencing the Hafele product world at any time and anywhere in the world. The Discoveries platform will also be undergoing further development for the interzum trade fair in May 2023. For example, the Plus services which were introduced in 2022 will be available there in the future. As far as Hafele customers are concerned, these mean time savings and noticeable simplifications along their entire work process. The idea behind it: Hafele integrates itself into the customer’s processes as a “team member” and makes it possible for the businesses of joiners/cabinet makers and interior design companies to focus even more intensively on their core business and core expertise, for example.

Connectivity pioneer – holistic lighting experiences

Years ago, Hafele set itself the target of becoming a trendsetter in the field of comprehensive networking solutions in furniture and rooms, and made lighting its core expertise. Strategic company acquisitions have also helped to expand the company’s know-how in innovative technologies in the past. At the beginning of 2022 and following several years of cooperation, Hafele acquired start-up company ThingOS, which was established out of the University of Stuttgart. With this step, not only the technical expertise but also the fresh impetus of the visionary entrepreneurial spirit was incorporated into the company’s own corporate culture: With ThingOS, Hafele is now fully capable of providing unique lighting and room experiences from a single source in conjunction with the Nimbus (light & acoustics) and Sphinx (electronic access control systems) business areas. The special expertise of controlling smartly networked furniture and room lighting is a unique selling point in the industry, and makes Hafele a pioneer.

Heavy investment – the growing “Hospitality” business segment

In order to provide a concrete insight into the topic of connectivity, Hafele has invested heavily and opened a new showroom known as the “Blackbox” in Stuttgart for its joiner/cabinet maker, industrial and project clientele.  In this future laboratory for making diverse use of rooms, predominantly in the area of commercial living, it is possible to directly experience the meaning of digital networking – and how it is possible to use rooms as efficiently as possible using cordlessly connected devices that communicate with each other at lightning speed. One of the classic scenarios is the hotel room, which is usually empty during the day and can be converted into an office workstation or meeting room in no time at all. The key questions to which Hafele has answers ready are, among other things: How can a room have multiple uses? How can it be easily converted? How can it be emotionalised for different atmospheres with good room and furniture light? How do I organize individual offers in a guest and operator-friendly way? The efficient use of rooms is particularly interesting for investors and operators in order to achieve a higher return on investment: “Together with our customers, we want to optimise the use and value of rooms and improve everyday processes by making sensible use of technology,” emphasises Gregor Riekena.

Well equipped for the anniversary year: Hafele turns 100

Hafele is well prepared for its anniversary year: “Entrepreneurial excellence” is what publicist and entrepreneur Dr. Florian Langenscheidt attested to the Hafele group of companies in his recently published illustrated book “From the best family”, in which Hafele is portrayed as one of 100 family-run businesses. In troubled times, it is more important than ever to draw attention to the achievements of German family-run businesses. They represent continuity, sustainability, economic success and social responsibility, as can be read in the press release from the ZEIT publishing group.

It would be hard to formulate more succinctly that which constitutes Hafele’s corporate culture, and will also continue to characterise it for the next 100 years. The company has proven time and again that words are followed by deeds, and there are many things in the pipeline for the anniversary year: After the opening of the fourth high-bay warehouse at the logistics centre in Nagold, an investment project which has cost around 20 million Euros, construction of the new Dynamics Centre is going to begin in 2023. An amount in the high double-digit millions is being invested within this framework. The core ideas of the building complex on the Wolfsberg in Nagold, which looks out over the Black Forest, are openness and cooperation. The building is intended to be open to visitors on the viewing platform, for employees from other companies for co-working and catering, and also for events organised by other companies. By “cooperation”, Hafele is thinking of its partners, but also of exchanges with start-ups or research institutions. Gregor Riekena: “The Dynamics Centre is designed for very flexible use. We therefore speak of an investment with vision. We want to contribute to the further development of Nagold as a business location.”

With the first major challenge on the threshold of the company’s second century, Hafele proved its capability when dealing with the cyber attack at the beginning of February 2023. Just a few weeks after shutting down all of its systems worldwide, the company has re-established its ability to deliver and restored the majority of its business operations. Hafele has also made major investments in setting up a completely new IT security architecture. “A strong economic foundation, decisive action and global cohesion were the decisive factors for not only overcoming this challenge, but emerging stronger,” says Gregor Riekena. “After this challenging start to 2023, we are all the more pleased to be coming together for our special anniversary and saying thank you to the Hafele Family and all of our partners.”

Various anniversary-related activities are planned during the course of the year. The interzum, the world’s leading trade fair for furniture manufacturing and interior design, will be kicking off the anniversary celebrations in May
