Impression of Achhi Aadat Campaign in Bokaro, Jharkhand

Jharkhand (India), March 1: JICA India launched Achhi Aadat Campaign (AAC) in 2021 which focuses on raising awareness and changing hand hygiene practices for preventing the spread of Covid-19 and other infectious diseases such as diarrhoea.

This outreach program focuses to create awareness and behavioural change of regular handwashing after using toilets among the community of Bokaro District, Jharkhand, with the participation of NGO Gram Jyoti and in partnership with IJ Kakehashi Services Pvt. Ltd., the campaign implementing consultant.

The activity has been owned by the members of Bal Sansad of Bokaro district. The young minds have taken the ownership to paste the posters disseminating the key messages of AAC and make the community aware about the importance of regular hand washing with soap and nail hygiene.

Under this campaign, 2 posters of AAC in each of the 5000 Public Toilets of communities, schools, and Panchayats have been installed. The children of schools have actively participated in this activity and oriented the community members about the correct way of handwashing.

Achhi Aadat Campaign – Contributing to the making of the Model Gram Panchayats in India in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India

New Delhi (India), March 1: The imprints of Achhi Aadat Campaign (AAC)– an initiative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) India which aims at raising awareness/knowledge of its targeted beneficiaries on the benefits of handwashing with soap and nail hygiene, has reached out to 3000 plus Model (Adarsh) Gram Panchayats across the country under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY). JICA and IJ Kakehashi Services Pvt. Ltd. (IJK), which is the implementation partner of AAC, have recently collaborated with the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India to facilitate the dissemination of the messages of AAC across all the model Panchayats.

In order to emphasise the importance of the message of the campaign and to ensure the ripple effect of the same across 3000 plus SAGY Gram Panchayats in India, a joint visit to two of the model Gram Panchayats in Lucknow (Durjanpur Gram Panchayat) and Sitapur (Patara Kala Gram Panchayat) districts of Uttar Pradesh were made on 21st February 2023 by a senior delegation from Delhi. This comprised of Mr. Naveen Shah, Joint Secretary, SAGY, Ministry of Rural Development; Ms. Jitsukata Miwa, Project Formulation Advisor, JICA India; and Mr. Sourabh Bhattacharjee, Head of Operations, Social Development Projects, IJK and other officials. Senior officials from the State Government of Uttar Pradesh also accompanied the delegation during the visit. Moreover, the event in Patara Kala Gram Panchayat was graced by the presence of Honourable Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Shri Rajesh Verma who appreciated the event and tweeted about the Mid Media Campaign conducted during the visit under the banner of AAC. This tweet was further endorsed by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.

The key highlights of the visit included a street play/ Mid Media Campaign conducted by Samvad Samajik Sansthan, a local NGO on the importance of handwashing with soap and nail hygiene, and an appropriate hand washing demonstration by Ms. Sangeeta Yadav, Project Coordinator, IJK. In addition, the corresponding officials in the State Government and the nodal officers were briefed about the key objectives of the Achhi Aadat Campaign.

According to the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, there is a need to improve the knowledge level of the beneficiaries on the importance of hygiene, and to bring in a desired change in their behaviour the Achhi Aadat Campaign can play an important role as it also complements the objectives of the Mission LiFE and SAGY. The Head of the Operations, Social Development Projects, IJK mentioned that the association with the Central Government and getting endorsements from the top leadership will lead this campaign to achieve new heights of success and purpose.

In 2021, JICA India launched the Achhi Aadat Campaign to spread various hygiene practices among the population of India. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign encouraged consistent and appropriate handwashing techniques, nail cleaning, and other hygiene practices. In continuation, JICA in partnership with IJK, collaborates with government bodies, private Japanese companies, or NGOs, to promote awareness among the people of India.

Surat’s PP Savani Group, which undertakes and supports an array of social services, has a different definition of service. PP Savani’s responsibility towards society does not stop at serving but extends to felicitating individuals who are doing something good for society or will be doing so. In line with its commitment to society, a function to felicitate achievers from different fields was organised at PP Savani Chaitanya Vidyasankul at Abrama in Surat.

Class 1, 2 and 3 officers who studied at the Competitive Examination Training Centre (CET Centre), a joint initiative of PP Savani Group and EM Charitable Trust, and are now serving in various positions in the state and union governments, were honoured at the function.

The function began at the picturesque campus of PP Savani Chaitanya Vidyasankul with a beautiful rendition of Ganesh Vandana. Eighteen dignitaries present at the function were formally welcomed which was followed by the felicitation of class 1, 2 and 3 officers who underwent training at CET Centre from the year 2002 to 2022.

The officers were honoured by PP Savani Group’s Vallabhbhai Savani, Mahesh Savani, Kanjibhai Bhalala, Bhavanbhai Navapara, Arvindbhai Dhaduk, Manharbhai Saspara, Dineshbhai Navadiya, Dr. NL Kalathia, Parbatbhai Dangashiya, Rameshbhai Vaghasiya, Haribhai Kathiria, Harshadbhai Rajguru, and other guests.

The officers were honoured irrespective of caste and community and included Muslim officials who underwent training at CET while they were preparing to appear for competitive exams. Students of various schools run by PP Savani Group were also present at the event. The felicitation ceremony would serve as an inspiration for students aspiring to become bureaucrats, said Vipul Talaviya, Administrator of PP Savani Hospital and Media Convener of PP Savani Group.

In his address, Mahesh Savani of PP Savani Group, said “PP Savani and EM Charitable Trust have been running the CET Centre since 2002. In 20 years, the Centre has dedicated 548 class 1, 2 and 3 officers to the country. It is a matter of great pride for us and our students. We pray that we can help more students prepare and succeed in the competitive exams.”

Dinesh Dasa, former chairman of Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC), said that real education is what helps remove obstacles from other’s paths and students who have studied at PP Savani educational campus are committed to this.

The function’s chair Pavansinh urged serving and aspiring officers to understand the issues of the common man and find ways to redress them. He exhorted them not to forget their own struggles and help find solutions to people’s problems as if they are their own problems.

Drawing references from Hanuman Chalisa, Shailesh Sagpariya, former joint secretary of Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), said that knowledge and merit are essential qualities.

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday clearly stated that there will be no change in government in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya and the NDA will remain in power like in 2018.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Sarma said, “There will be no change. The NDA will remain in power like in 2018 and there will be no alliance with the TMC and the Congress,”.

“NDA will form the government in all three northeast states after the March 2.
Tripura, there will be a BJP CM and in Nagaland, we have an alliance. For Meghalaya, let’s wait till Thursday and see how many seats we win,” Sarma asserted.

Meanwhile, exit poll results predicated a victory for BJP and its allies in Tripura and Nagaland.

In Meghalaya, the exit polls suggested that National People’s Party (NPP) may emerge as the single largest party.

The exit polls also suggested that TMC and Tipra Motha could emerge as the second biggest party in Meghalaya and Tripura, respectively.

Both TMC and Tipra Motha are not part of the NEDA.

Sarma is the convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), a forum of BJP and its regional allies in the Northeast.

Guwahati: The World’s longest river cruise ‘MV Ganga Vilas’ reached Bogibeel in eastern Assam Dibrugarh on Tuesday.

Union minister of ports, Shipping and Waterways hailed it as a historic and path-breaking event to be witnessed in the Inland Waterways sector since India’s Independence 75 years ago.

Sarbananda Sonowal accorded a warm welcome to all the 28 foreign tourists travelling onboard. With the successful end of its maiden journey covering a distance of over 3200 kms, the MV Ganga Vilas opens up a new vista of opportunity in the river tourism potential in the entire South Asia region.

Earlier, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi flagged off MV Ganga Vilas – the first indigenously made cruise vessel in India – from Varanasi on January 13, 2023. Built with a unique design and a futuristic vision, the cruise has three decks and 18 suites on board with a capacity of 36 tourists. It is already booked for to and fro journey for the next two years.

During this epoch making journey, the tourists travelling onboard had an opportunity to travel via iconic places like Patna Sahib, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, Dhaka, the Sunderbans and the Kaziranga before reaching Dibrugarh in Assam today.

Speaking on this historic moment, the Union Minister, Sarbanada Sonowal said, “The successful completion of world longest river cruise, MV Ganga Vilas, has exemplified how India under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji is ready to explore newer horizons to unlock value for the country. The robustness of the ship during the course of this journey shows how our tremendous strength in ship building capacity is a world class enterprise. The successful cruise movement as well as cargo movement on inland waterways is a testament to the vision of PM Modi ji to bring about transformation through transportation. We continue to work under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi ji towards achieving Maritime India Vision, 2030; Sagarmal by 2035 along with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and National Logistics Policy. Today, we have realised another milestone to unlock tremendous potential in blue economy of India.”

Speaking on the huge boost to the river economy in the Northeast region, the Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Our glorious history of riverine trade is set to be reclaimed with the successful completion of world longest river cruise here today. With the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji, we have reclaimed our access from Brahmaputra to international marine trade routes via Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR) & coastal ecosystem. The entire riverine economy through Arth Ganga has received a magnificent boost through the success of this River Cruise.The dream of Prime Minister for an alternate transport which is economical, safe & environmentally sustainable has been truly realised with this success today. I firmly believe that by investing more in river transportation, we can make Modi ji’s noble initiative of Net Zero – with considerable reduction in pollution, economical option. As the Northeast India gets ready to power the engine of growth of India with its rich riverine system, I am sure the historic city of Dibrugarh & the whole region remains excited about the trade & commercial potential it carries forth in the ensuing days.”

New Delhi (India), February 28: The World Sikh Chamber of Commerce (WSCC) hosted it’s first-ever “Global Sikh Authors and Business Awards” on February 26, 2023, at Hotel Le Meridien in Connaught Place, New Delhi. The event was attended by Sikh business tycoons, global Sikh leaders, community achievers, stalwarts, community influencers, different Chamber of Commerce, trade, technology, and industry associations, Industrialists, Celebrities, High net-worth individuals, professionals like Doctors, Lawyers, CA, Vice Chancellors, Journalists, Hoteliers, Trainers, Coaches, Consultants, and elite businessmen, who were all honored for their outstanding contributions to the Sikh community.

Mr. Prakash Yadav, a tailor who completed the training sessions, expressed, “This is a huge honour and a much needed effort for our tailor community. Most of us have never taken any formal training in tailoring and had to take up this work out of no choice and other opportunities. After completing these training sessions, we now know much more about fashion, style consultancy, modern methods of drafting, ways to shorten the process, ways to handle alterations beforehand, customer behaviour, developments in the garmenting trade, and modernization, among other things. I feel much more confident now and ready to bring a boost in my tailoring business.

The overall response has been extremely welcoming, and more and more tailors are waiting to benefit from this initiative. Siyaram’s is now planning to establish an online library and help desk to help tailors whenever they are in trouble with odd sizes and special fabrics, so that their queries could be addressed and they got proper technical support in drafting and handling fabric.
