President Droupadi Murmu, who undertook a half-an-hour sortie in a Rafale fighter jet on Wednesday from Ambala, posed with Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh, just before she took to the skies.
Squadron Leader Singh, the country’s first woman Rafale fighter jet pilot, was claimed to have been captured during ‘Operation Sindoor’ by a pro-Pakistan social media handle.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check had on May 10 called out this claim as fake.
The Rafale jets were used in Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 to destroy several terror infrastructures in territories controlled by Pakistan, in response to the April 22 dastardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a picture of the President posing with Squadron Leader Singh, atop a ladder used in boarding or deboarding an aircraft.
The President took a sortie in a Rafale aircraft at Air Force Station, Ambala (Haryana) on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by her office.
Murmu is the first President of India to have taken sortie in two fighter aircrafts of the Indian Air Force. Earlier, she took a sortie in Sukhoi 30 MKI in 2023.
In the vibrant landscape of Indian regional cinema, where diverse languages and dialects weave tales of culture, identity, and human experience, a new milestone is on the horizon. Kundaalu, an upcoming Gujarati feature film set to release in cinemas on November 14, 2025, marks a historic first: it’s the inaugural full-length movie produced entirely in the Mehsani dialect of Gujarati. This earthy, rhythmic accent, native to the rural heartlands of Mehsana in northern Gujarat, has long been a staple of local folklore and everyday conversations but has rarely echoed through the silver screen. Directed by Rohit Prajapati and produced by 3 Peepul Productions in association with Geet Theatre, Kundaalu promises to immerse audiences in the authentic rhythms of village life, blending poetry, philosophy, and poignant drama.
The Essence of Kundaalu: Circles of Life and Reflection
At its core, Kundaalu—which translates to “circles” or “loops” in Gujarati—explores profound themes of existence, mortality, and the cyclical nature of human endeavors. The film’s teaser, released recently, opens with evocative Gujarati verses: “રમતા રમતા રેતીમાં લખોટી કે ગોટી, દોર્યા લાખ કુંડાળા. પણ મૂઓ કપાળે ચોંટ્યો ચાંદલો, મોઢે બોબડો, બોલે તો બોલે શું, ને ગોઝારી રેતીમાં દોરે તો દોરે શું?” Roughly translated, it speaks of playing in the sand, drawing countless circles with lines or stones, only to confront death’s mark on the forehead—a stuck vermilion dot, a distorted face. What does it say? What does it draw in the terrifying sands? This poetic introspection sets the tone for a narrative rooted in rural simplicity, where childhood games metaphorically unravel into deeper questions about fate, legacy, and the human condition.
Set against the picturesque villages of Mehsana, the film captures the unfiltered essence of Gujarati rural life—dusty paths, communal gatherings, and the subtle interplay of tradition and change. The Mehsani accent adds a layer of authenticity, making dialogues feel like overheard conversations from a bustling chai stall or a family courtyard. It’s not just a linguistic choice; it’s a cultural homage, amplifying voices from a region often overshadowed by standard Gujarati in mainstream media. The cast includes standout performances, such as Vaibhav Biniwale as the evocative character Jaga Kaka (or Jagaji), whose portrayal brings depth to the film’s emotional core. With its motion poster emphasizing “The Circle of Life,” Kundaalu appears poised to blend visual storytelling with philosophical undertones, much like a folk tale come alive.
The production journey itself mirrors the film’s themes of unexpected turns. What began as a modest short film concept during the COVID-19 lockdown evolved into this ambitious feature, showcasing resilience and adaptation in the face of challenges.
Spotlight on the Visionaries: Neena, Priya, and Suchitra of 3 Peepul Productions
Behind Kundaalu’s innovative spirit stands 3 Peepul Productions, an impact-driven film house founded by three remarkable women: Neena Arora, Priya Krishnaswamy, and Suchitra Parikh. Spread across Vadodara in India and Austin in the USA, these “accidental producers” never envisioned a career in filmmaking. Yet, their passion for powerful stories has built a company dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and narratives rooted in the Indian ethos.
Neena Arora, based in Vadodara, is an entrepreneur with a flair for the arts. A graduate in Home Science from Lady Irwin College, she owns Splatter Studio, a creative hub for exhibitions, workshops, and curated crafts. Her love for theatre led her to co-found Page to Stage in 2013 with Suchitra. Neena’s interests span films, travel, painting, music, and cooking, infusing her work with a vibrant, hands-on energy.
Priya Krishnaswamy, residing in Austin, brings a global perspective as a painter, poet, and writer. Holding degrees in English Literature from Women’s Christian College and Madras University, plus a business degree from the University of Texas-Austin, she has experience in garment sourcing and e-commerce across India, the USA, and France. Priya’s passions include literature, history, textiles, and arts, making her a bridge between cultures in the trio’s collaborative efforts.
Suchitra Parikh, also in Vadodara, is a HR consultant with a background in Sociology, Psychology, and Human Resource Development from Maharaja Sayajirao University and Tata Institute of Social Sciences. As co-founder of Page to Stage, she’s deeply involved in causes like education, health, and rural development. Suchitra’s enthusiasm for storytelling, wildlife, sports, and poetry drives the company’s focus on impactful content.
Their journey began in August 2020, amid the pandemic’s uncertainties. Neena and Suchitra were approached by aspiring filmmaker Rohit Prajapati with a four-line pitch for a short film. Enchanted by the idea, they offered to finance it, unwittingly stepping into production roles. The first shooting schedule unfolded in October 2020 as lockdowns eased briefly. By December, as preparations for the second schedule ramped up, the story had blossomed from a short into something grander—ultimately becoming the feature Kundaalu. Priya joined the fold, and together they formalized 3 Peepul Productions, drawing inspiration from the resilient Peepul tree to symbolize their adaptive, enduring vision.
As women leading in a male-dominated industry, Neena, Priya, and Suchitra embody empowerment. Their company, a member of the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association, has also produced shorts like Vishwamitri Villas and projects for Sakshi, all emphasizing meaningful tales. Kundaalu stands as their flagship achievement, not just for its linguistic innovation but for proving that passion-fueled detours can create cinematic legacies.
As audiences await its release, Kundaalu invites us to reflect on our own circles—drawn in sand, etched in memory, and forever evolving. Through the lens of Mehsani Gujarati and the determination of three extraordinary women, this film is set to redefine regional storytelling.

Surat (Gujarat) [India], April 7: When Dr. Hetal Tamakuwala is not providing dental care, she is likely to devote her time to physical activities such as cycling, running, or swimming, possibly in preparation for an upcoming competition. Dr. Hetal, a dental professional who runs the ‘Dr. Hetal’s Advanced Dentistree’ clinic in Surat’s Pal-Adajan, has long participated in triathlons. She completed the gruelling Full Ironman triathlon in Malaysia and finished 10th overall, bringing Surat, Gujarat, and the country to international prominence. Dr. Hetal has become the country’s first female dentist, India’s ninth female athlete, and Gujarat’s second to complete the Iron Man Triathlon.
Dr. Hetal’s year-long commitment to intensifying her training regimen culminated in the arduous triathlon, which included a 3.8 km swim in the sea, 180 km cycling, and a full 42 km marathon run. The Iron Man tasks were supposed to be completed in 17 hours, but Dr. Hetal completed them in 15 hours and 40 minutes, placing her 10th in the world.
Surat, known throughout the world as a diamond and textile city, is now making its mark in the field of sports as well. Many sports personalities from the city have made Surat, Gujarat, and the country’s names shine at the international level through their energetic performances.
Hetal Tamakuwala said she never imagined 10 years ago that she would one day complete the gruelling Full Iron Man Triathlon. “I won a silver medal in a two-kilometer race in Surat ten years ago.” This success sowed the seeds of my desire to become an athlete in me. Since then, I’ve been putting in long hours of practise in order to become a medical athlete. I used the “Rule of 7″ for this, which means 7 hours of clinical practice, 7 hours of competition training, and 7 hours of sleep in a day.”
Dr.Hetal took up swimming practise in the Tapi river and Causeway, as well as the Surat District Cricket Association (SDCA) swimming pool at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Piplod, because the Full Iron Man Triathlon requires swimming in the sea. She chose to ride from Surat to Saputara and Surat to Dang for cycling practice, as well as some routes in Surat city. Winning the Iron Man title and accomplishing all of this would not have been possible without the family’s support and the coach’s guidance.
“From the beginning, I have had the moral support of my husband, Dr. Deepak Tamakuwala, and sons, Dr. Dhruv and Devansh; swimming coach Jignesh Sarang Sir and cycling coach Tarak Shah Sir gave me valuable advice. A special thanks to Vishal Cycle Agency for providing with all the gears & equipments whenever required. This achievement was a result of culminative support from my family & coaches.” says Dr. Hetal Tamakuwala
Dr.Hetal is the first female athlete from Surat to have completed five events, in addition to successfully completing the Full Iron Man Triathlon in Malaysia. She finished the Full Iron Man Triathlon in Malaysia on November 5, 2022; and the Half Iron Man Triathlon in Kolhapur on October 2, 2022, earning another prize. She then finished second in the Half Iron Man Triathlon in Goa on November 13, 2022. She then competed in the Guru Shikhar Challenge on January 1, 2023, cycling uphill 183 kilometres from Mehsana to Mount Abu to Guru Shikhar and finishing first. On February 25, 2023, she won the Full Iron Man Triathlon at Konark being solo female finisher.
Dr. Hetal is unstoppable, even after suffering five fractures.
Any athlete must put in a lot of practise time. Dr. Hetal Tamakuwala understood this so well that she had accidents five times during practise and fractured her bones at various times, but after recovering, she continued to practise and, without losing courage, she continued to move forward to achieve her goal.

The programme aims to train a cohort of deaf aspirants to become certified E license coaches who will deliver life skills modules to marginalised deaf children through the platform of football
Mumbai/Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], April 3: Slum Soccer, an NGO promoting football among the impoverished communities across India launched a first one-of-its-kind training programme in India in association with Reliance Foundation to train deaf aspirants to become certified E license coaches at a special camp organised recently in Navi Mumbai under the aegis of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The certification course was held under a partnership with DeafKidz International with the support of Comic Relief and Reliance Foundation at Navi Mumbai had 20 participants from Nagpur who were coached by Shailesh Karkera, Senior Manager, Grassroots – AIFF Technical Dept. & AFC Grassroots Technical Panel Member and focussed on the fundamentals skills such as passing, dribbling, controlling, etc. Additionally, the training conducted at the facilities of the Reliance Foundation Young Champs Academy also focused on other essential aspects of coaching such as planning a football session, organising tournaments, roles and responsibilities of a coach, first aid and Do’s and Don’ts under the AIFF.
It must be noted that India is home to approximately 63 million people in the deaf and hard-of-hearing category and have access to limited sports facilities, resources, interpreters, etc. Due to a lack of licensing in this category, coaches are unrecognised and often take up undesired and unwanted jobs to make ends meet. Through this novel initiative, all the stakeholders aim to integrate coaches in this category with skillsets to develop new age competencies that will equip them to impart education to several hearing-impaired children.
Under the programme, the youth are not only getting trained under Slum Soccer but will be delivering football skills and football-games-based life skills through their communication method of choice like the Indian Sign Language (ISL). The organisers have also identified and partnered with several NGOs and schools in Nagpur to train children in football through sign language. Slum Soccer plans to expand this initiative to Mumbai, Chennai, among other metros over the next few months.
“To promote diversity, and inclusion at the community level, we have been organising regular football tournaments where participants play along with their hearing counterparts. It served to boost their self-confidence of the hearing-impaired players and encouraged their integration into the mainstream. Simultaneously, the able players got sensitised and developed a healthy camaraderie with their counterparts. The project is illustrating the transformation in the lives of hearing-impaired adults who are provided with access to the programme and trained as coaches. We sincerely thank the contribution of our partners – Reliance Foundation, DeafKidz International, AIFF and Comic Relief for extending their support to our initiative,” said, Abhijit Barse, CEO, Slum Soccer.
“This is the first time that we are conducting an official AIFF Coaching Course for differently abled candidates and a lot of work has gone into preparing for it. The goal is to make our coaching programs more inclusive, accessible and empowering for future participants so that they have the tools to engage effectively with children in their respective communities and sporting entities,” said, Savio Medeira, Director of Coach Education, AIFF.
The programme will also coach children on the importance of education, safety, health and hygiene, safe spaces, protection of their rights, safeguarding, basic life skills, etc. This training will be the first of its kind to meet deaf children’s needs, effectively capturing their attention through best-spoken deaf-focused teaching and learning methods, which can then be replicated in other geographical locations throughout India in the future. The training would bring together the community and build sustainability to take forward the mission to make football deaf-friendly (and deaf persons football friendly).
Slum Soccer was registered as a Non-Governmental Public Charitable Trust Organisation governed by the Public Trust Act of the state of Maharashtra in 2001. The unbridled joy on the faces of a few street children kicking a broken bucket around a slushy ground in an impromptu game of football, blissfully unaware of the pelting rain during a sudden rainstorm, prompted the founding of our organisation, SlumSoccer. Over the last two decades, Team Slum Soccer has relentlessly worked to make sports accessible to everyone irrespective of race, religion, caste, colour, and socio-economic background. Taking our flag of changing lives through football forward, our endeavour is also to football equally accessible to specially-abled persons. The glorious game of football is considered as great levellers, and unifier and lends itself to be learned and played easily.
