Assam: Army PRO held in connection with woman murder in Tezpur
Guwahati: Defence Public Relations Officer Lt Col Amarinder Singh Walia on Friday was allegedly arrested in conection with a murder case of a woman. He was arrested from Assam’s Tezpur district where he has been serving as an Defence Public Relation Officer.
Walia, who hails from Hariyana, is posted as Defence PRO at 4 Corps of the Indian Army Mission Chariali in Tezpur.
According to reports, changsari police under Kamrup district detained the army official with the assistance of Tezpur police in a case related to the murder of a woman.
Amarinder Singh was taken into custody from the Tezpur Army Battalion’s 4th Corps Headquarters. According to police, the 35-year old woman’s body was found wrapped in a big plastic bag, dumped in Kamrup’s Changsari on February 15 near National Highway 31.
The deceased woman has been identified as Bandana Shree, who had gone to visit Banaras, came to Guwahati from Delhi on February 14 to meet Walia.
Police said the woman was kidnapped and killed by unknown culprits in other place and dropped at the highway road side at Changsari market near Guwahati Food Express fast food shop. Meanwhile, the body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for post mortem.
“We have arrested Amarinder Singh Walia and started interrogation. Our investigation is at preliminary stage and we cannot reveal much on this case,” said a police official.
